Hi Everyone,

Many thanks to those who have provided feedback over the last few weeks (special mentions include RonC, Esa, LX, Kyle and, last but certainly not least, Dermot Furlong). This release (v0.86) comprises many new features, modifications and fixes, and hopefully shouldn't create too many new bugs, featuring as it does:

·      Basic MIDI output. After going down many dead-ends (see the various forum posts), reViSiT now has basic MIDI output support. Users must enable MIDI Output in the Instrument/Pitch page, and can choose between sending the MIDI to the VST host (for supported hosts only), or to any installed Windows MIDI driver, in each case on one of 16 MIDI channels. Currently supported MIDI messages include note on's, note off's (use ===), initial pitch, initial volume and note delay (SDx).

·      Info Page. Users can now sit back and watch their song play, with reViSiT's Info Page (F5), featuring proper VU meters, as well as pitch, volume and panning meters. The current implementation is quite CPU intensive (especially for modules with lots of tracks), but the graphics will not interfere with any audio processing. Additionally, this display will be optimised for future versions.

·          Improved Wav Support. reViSiT now supports uncompressed (PCM) Microsoft WAVE files of all bit rates (e.g. 8, 16, 24, 32) and sample rates (e.g. 22.05, 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96.6 and everywhere in between). Stereo samples are now fully supported, and can be loaded, played and balanced*.
* NOTE: Stereo balancing behaviour will change slightly in future versions.

·          And MUCH, MUCH more. reViSiT v0.86 has many more additions and changes, too numerous to list here. See the readme.txt or associated release notes for full details.

As much an update as v0.86 is, it is only a modest step towards v1.0. In the next update, v0.86.1, reViSiT will gain improved MIDI support (including audio/MIDI delay compensation), a preferences screen, and the ability to save with the host (e.g. a reViSiT module automatically embedded in a Cubase sequence). Due to recent setbacks, v0.86 is a little later than had been originally envisaged, so reViSiT is likely to miss its Christmas Beta (v0.9) target., but we'll get there eventually!

Chris
